Creation Day 7 God 's Purpose for Resting on the 7th Day
God made the Sabbath on the seventh day of the creation week. He command s all of us to set aside a day of rest each week for fou r important reasons: • First, o ur f aith in God will become stronger when we set aside time to draw closer to understanding this marvelous universe and Earth that He alone created. It will awaken a hunger within you to not only know more about our Creator, but also give you a heartfelt appreciation for all the daily blessings that H e has surrounded us with. • Secon d , as our Creator, God knows what is best for us. He commanded all mankind to set aside a day each week to honor the Sabbath , God's sanctified Holy Day of rest.
Honor ing God's 4th Commandment
8. “Remember the Sabbath day by keeping it H oly. Six days you shall labor and do all your work, but the seventh day is a sabbath to the Lord your God. 9. For in six days the Lord made the heavens and the earth, the sea, and all that is in them, but he rested on the seventh day. 11. Therefore the Lord blessed the Sabbath day and made it H oly.” ~ Exodus 20:8-9 & 11, NIV • Honoring the Sabbath as a Holy D ay also invokes God's favor . I ts primary intent is recognizing that God alone is our sole benefactor and supplier of all of our needs.
• Finally, our weekly Sabbath day of rest is our invitation to put aside our earthly schedules and prepare ourselves for eternity. It’s a time when we can gather together with fellow believers to worship and honor God in one accord. Our Sabbath rest also allows us the time to clearly focus on how we can best serve God by loving others .
