Ruach Elohim

Genesis 1:2 על־פני המים׃ מרחפת ורוח אלהים והארץ היתה תהו ובהו וחשך על־פני תהום ’ĕ-lō-hîm Rū-ach And the 'Spirit of God'

In Hebrew, the original inspired language of the Tanach (Old Testament), the word Ruach ורוח is a force. It is invisible and like wind, it can be felt or experienced, but not seen. It is the breath of God which disperses His life-force, His energy and His intentions. It is Yahweh's Spirit which is is omnipresent, but also can be directed in specific ways for specific purposes. It is His actual Person that manifests itself in the world and which comes to dwell in the hearts and lives of His people. The Greek word for Spirit is pneuma (Strongs 4151), which has a similar meaning to the word Ruach . “Pneuma means to breathe, blow, primarily denotes the wind. The spirit which, like the wind, is invisible, immaterial, and powerful.” Ruach (Strongs 7307) also implies a power that is within the breath and wind, which is connected to the Name Yahweh . Ruach is the power emanating from Yahweh , the Heavenly Father. It is Yahweh’s power that puts all things into motion. It is Yahweh’s power through His Ruach that breathes life into His creation and makes all things alive. In Genesis 1:2 , Ruach Elōhîm is designated to use His 'hovering' power to set in motion Elōhîm's ingredients for creation.
