3 5 5. James Clerk Maxwell (1831 -1879) - Building on Michael Faraday’s discovery, Scottish born James Clerk Maxwell was the first person to demonstrate that the same electromagnetic energy that flows through a electric wire can also travel through empty space as waves. Creation Day One: "Let there be light!"
In the mid-1800s physicist James Clerk Maxwell concluded that light moved through empty space in the form of an “electromagnetic wave” he named a 'photon'. What sort of wave is a photon of light? • A photon wave propagates (moves) by alternating pulses of electricity and magnetism moving through space at the speed of light.
• The electric and magnetic fields of the photon light beam keep each other moving at 186,000 miles/sec or 300,000 km/ second
