Nuclear Fusion - The fuel of the stars Everything you see and everything you do (including the oxygen you breathe) is an indirect product of what is taking place deep inside the core of the S un— because the core is what drives the Sun, and the Sun drives the Earth. If you could get close

enough to the Sun to peer inside its core and see what's going on, you would see atoms of hydrogen "fusing" together ( because of the intense pressure and gravity inside the core ) to make atoms of helium, releasing huge amounts of energy in the form of photons of light.

Apart from making incredible amounts of heat inside the Sun itself (the core is at a temperature of about 16 million degrees C), the Sun's nuclear fusion also produces the solar energy that radiates outward (in all wavelengths) across 93 million miles of space (in 8 minutes and 20 seconds) sustaining all the life forms on planet Earth.
