Creation Day Four : Genesis 1:14-19 Disorder to Order

6 1

On the fourth day of Creation Week, God commanded the sun, the moon, the planets of our solar system , and all of the stars - billions of them - to radiate their light upon the earth 's surface . Beside being earth's main source of heat, the sun 's main role was to light up the day, and the moon to light up the night. The se celestial light s were also positioned in heavens above the earth to be signs to mark seasons, days and years. Did you know that s ome birds navigate by the stars in the sky when migrating. How do they know how to do that? In fact, birds raised from eggs inside a building where they have never seen the sky can orient themselves toward home when shown an nighttime sky for the very first time! When God made our solar system He did it just right. Earth is about 93 million miles (150 million kilometers) away from the sun. This is exactly the right distance to keep earth's average temperature at 59°F (15°C). This is the right temperature needed to sustain most life. If we were just 5% closer to the sun, the oceans would boil and the water would all evaporate. If the earth were only 5% further away, the oceans would freeze. In Chapter 3 we discovered that the sun’s radiate energy (in the form of ultraviolet light ) is produced by continuous nuclear reactions deep inside its core where hydrogen atoms are fused into helium. Despite the sun’s continuous output of dangerous ultraviolet light , 97% of this skin- penetrating light is blocked by our atmosphere's ozone layer that was created on Day 4. This is just right for the support of life on Earth.
