Creation Day 2: The Stretching of the Raqia
Ask most astronomers today and they'll agree - our universe is perfect — eerily, uncannily perfect! From the intricate functioning of the smallest sub- atomic particle to the balanced makeup of the largest galaxy composed of millions of hot, glowing stars held together by an invisible force scientists call dark matter, we can all agree - we live in a finely-tuned universe! What astronomers might not agree on is "why" our universe is "so perfectly balanced".
As I said earlier in this chapter, God created our vast universe for one purpose only: He wanted to build a perfect home, complete with a perfect balance of all the chemical and physical requirements needed for mankind to both live and thrive. To understand the exact science behind how God accomplished this unfathomable feat, we must dig deeper into the Hebrew meaning of the words raqia and mayim recorded in Genesis 1:6. As we discovered at the beginning of this chapter, the Hebrew word used for the heavenly expanse in Genesis 1:6 is raqia. Raqia is also translated to mean "to beat or spread out thinly". Here is the true story of how two scientists, Albert Einstein and Edwin Hubble, proved not only the existence of the biblical raqia, but how this mysterious force is actually "stretching out our universe" and changing our perception of both space and time.
