Creation Day 2: Genesis 1:7-8 7. And God made the expanse (raqia) ָ ר קִ יע and separated the waters
(mayim) מַ יִם that were under the expanse (raqia) from the waters (mayim) that were above the expanse (raqia). And it was so. 8 . And God called the expanse Heaven (shamayim) שָ ׁמַ יִם . And there was evening (ereb) and there was morning (boker), the second day. ~ Genesis 1:7-8 ESV
• D ay 1 - "Good" is stated once right after the creation of light (v.4) while the earth was still without form (v. 2) , but before the dividing of light and dark (v.4-5). • Day 3 - "Good" is stated twice : first, after the gathering together of seas and appearing of the dry land (v. 9-10) ; second, after the plants emerged from the earth to reproduce (v. 11-12) . • Day 4 - "Good" is stated once with the appearance of the sun, the moon and the stars (v.14-18) . This completes the division of light and dark from day one . • Day 5 - "Good" is stated once, after the creation of the sea and air creatures (v. 20-21) . • Day 6 - "Good" is stated twice , once after the creation of land creatures (v. 24-25) , and once after the creation of mankind (v. 26-30) , at the final culmination of God's creative work at which He called "very good" (v. 31) . Before answering this very important question, we need to go back and carefully inspect Genesis 1: 7 -8 for a missing clue that could help us better understand the chemical and physical makeup of the waters ( mayim ). The statement, "And God saw that it was good." is quoted at the end each of the first six days of creation - the exception being on Day Two. The big question is why this quote "And God saw that it was good." is missing on Day Two? What important message was God trying to convey here? Is its absence intentional? You should notice as well that the declaration of "good" varies as to when it is said within each Creation Day of Genesis 1 .
