LOUIS SINCLAIR MCNALLY

Originally from Inverkip, Louis attended Gray’s School of Art in the mid-Eighties. He currently resides in East Lothian. Finding inspiration in the East Coast countryside and the Gothic majesty of Edinburgh, Louis’ works act as interpretations of the environments that we traverse on a day to day basis. He strips away evidence of the hustle and bustle of daily life, allowing him to explore the distinctive character and grandeur of any given place. Often painting with oil on robust wooden panels, Louis has a painstakingly detailed approach. He creates paintings that are carefully composed and painted over many weeks. He often references his own drawings, photographs and memories and the resulting works can feel both uncanny and reassuring. In shining an atmospheric light on familiar locales, his compositions invite us to fully appreciate the essential tranquillity of the spaces we inhabit.
