Institute Speaker Committee Report AKA Institute’s Got Talent By April Luedecke, CDOA
One of the benefits of being a member of NADOA is the educational opportunities you have through attending the annual Institute. This year we already have a great lineup going to give you the best and most current education, featuring some familiar faces and one or two you may not know yet. Wednesdays are a great time to add in a more in-depth course for those who take the time to arrive earlier. We haven’t determined the lineup for the Wednesday courses, but the forecast for escheat and calculations is looking good. We hope you all can arrive in time to take advantage of these additional classes. Making the schedule thus far is Eli Murray , our very own Landman with Dorchester Minerals. She’s a whiz at calculations and will give you a good workout, so prepare with mental calisthenics and wear your running shoes. Brush up on your sci-fi references and do try to keep up, slick. Who dat? Why dats our favorite Cajun Alyce Hoge , chere! Alyce knows how to keep your attention and impart good information you will use in your career. And it won’t hurt one bit. Unless she starts telling jokes, and then I hope you aren’t fresh out of working your core that day. Five star, come see. – Boudreaux & Thibodeaux Paul Strickland is an attorney from Shreveport, LA, and knows his way around a Parish. You’ll want to keep his presentation for reference, he knows how to get to the meat and gravy of a subject, with or without a roux. Gary Joseph with Sovos (which acquired Keane) will be in attendance to give you the scoop on escheat issues we all must face at some point or another. We appreciate a good breakdown on what we need to get through escheat season without needing a therapist or a value-sized bottle of pain reliever.
Steptoe & Johnson is sending us three of their A-team. Jason Lucas , Tim McKeen and Andrew Graham are expert attorneys in their respective fields and bring the force of heavy research meets experience. Sure, these guys can handle multi-million dollar deals, but what we really want to know is if they can handle attending Thursday night’s event in a group costume. Jeramy Norsworthy is an Oil Scout with Oxy and is a fresh face to NADOA. Scouting can be a major asset to a company and Jeramy is prepared to educate us in how the DO Analyst can play a part. It’s not all beer and golf. Well, it might be mostly golf and beer. Find out what Jeramy has to say in the matter. Gerald Hendrik and Drew Poe will be talking to us about investing and the tax breaks we can expect. Whether bringing the knowledge to your company or keeping it for yourself, financial management is a topic we can all use more information on. If lottery tickets and learning to count cards are the focus of your long- term financial plans, I suggest you sit right up front. Another newcomer for NADOA is Erin Raughton , the Land Manager at Headington Energy Partners. I worked with Erin at Anadarko a few years ago and she is the best combination of sharp meets practical. Erin is the kind of Landman you always enjoy working with in the office. Or while working it on the dance floor. Jus’ saying.
Please keep in mind that the lineup is subject to change as even the best laid eggs do. Or something like that…
