soul winning. This great city was— and still is— a field ripe for spiritual harvest. There were hundreds o f homes in which Christ was not known as a personal Saviour; house- to-house visitation would afford opportunity for witnessing ^ ^ ^ ^ ^ for ^Christ,^^for

A large number o f them are Bible Institute graduates. Content to be little known, the only reward they seek is the Lord’s “ Well done.” But the question, “ What is a

Bible Woman?” leads to the un folding of a romantic story— one of ascending interest. And because it is an account, not o f human attain ment, but o f the working o f the Holy Spirit in individual lives, its climax has not yet been reached. The story had its beginning more than a quarter o f a century ago, when the Bible Institute o f Los Angeles was very young, and when the city itself had just begun to stretch out proudly for many miles in almost every direction. In those early years, as in those that have fol lowed, hundreds o f earnest young

Horton, for many years the beloved Superintendent of Bible Women at the Bible Institute, to see the great opportunity in Biola’s “ Jerusalerii” and '“ Samaria,” and to organize a group o f women who should go forth from the Institute to meet that need in the power o f God. Since the death o f Mrs. Horton, the work o f the Bible Women has been continued and enlarged under the direction o f Mrs. Lyman Stewart. There are now four distinct departments o f the work of the Bible Women—hospital Visitation (including work in sanitariums, the county farm, etc.), adult Bible classes, the Lyceum and Eteri Clubs for business and college young women, and the Euodia Club for junior high and high school girls. An average o f ninety Bible classes are conducted by Bible Women each week within a radius o f twenty-five miles o f Los Angeles. But of equally vital importance is it to teach the Word o f God patiently, week by week, to busy mothers, many o f whom have little children to rear. To present the Word o f God, which is always appealing, convincing, satisfying— and to [Continued on page 122]

people turned toward the Bible Institute o f Los Angeles, eager to receive Christian training that would enable them to go with the message o f salvation “ to the uttermost part o f the earth.” They came, they were trained, and they went forth under the direction o f various missionary agencies to distant mission fields. Today, in practically every country o f the world, there are among those who “ earnestly contend for the faith,” men and women who received their training at the Bible Institute o f Los Angeles. Others o f the students who came to the Bible Institute felt called o f God to service in various parts o f America— “ in all Judea.” Their work at Biola completed, and still following the leading o f the Lord, they became pastors, home missionaries, or church workers in the home field. A t the same time, the fine scriptural bal- Shall these young men and women receive the training they desire? Shall they be enabled to go forth with the message of salvation, witnessing at home and in foreign lands among the millions who perish without Christ? Faith answers, “They shall!” For God, who has miraculously kept open the doors of the Bible Institute of Los Angeles throughout more than a quarter of a century, is able today to provide— through .His own children— for every need of the present class. It should be borne in mind that no student at the Bible Institute of Los Angeles is required to pay tuition. Indeed, if tuition were charged, the majority of the students could not attend, for a large number of them are now dependent upon part-time employment to meet their living expenses. But the training which the student receives absolutely free (exclusive of board and room) costs the Institute approximately $75.00 per student per semester. God knows how large a sum is urgently needed to continue training these 448 students until graduation day. He knows, too, that among His children there are some who will choose to be "workers together with God" in the meeting of the Institute’s need and the sending forth of reapers into the harvest fields of the - world. Shall He count you among that number? Shall He count 1me?
