the Scriptures.” And Peter, on the day of Pentecost, quotes one o f the scriptures which was fulfilled by Christ’s rising-from the dead: “Thou wilt not leave my soul in hell [Sheol] ; neither wilt thou suffer thine Holy One to see corruption” (Psa. 16:10; Acts 2:27-31). . 2. The resurrection o f Christ proves His deity and Messiahship. He was “de clared to be the Son o f God with power . . . by the resurrection from the dead” (Rom. 1:4). That our Lord so under stood the evidential value of His resurrec tion is clear from John 2:13-22. Here He comes face to face with those who dis puted His tremendous claims and demand ed a “sign” of the divine authority which He exercised. His answer rests all His claims upon one fact: “Destroy this tem ple, and in three days I will raise it up.” 3. The resurrection of Christ proves that our bodies shall some day be raised from the dead. In John 14:19, our Lord prophetically looks forward to His resur rection and declares that it is the pledge of the resurrection life of His people: “Be cause L live, ye shall live also.” And Paul, in his great dissertation on the resurrec tion, speaks o f Christ’s resurrection as “the first fruits "of them that are asleep” (1 Cor. 15:20, R .V .). “ Firstfruits” are the guarantee o f further fruit. 4. The resurrection of Christ proves there will be a judgment day for the un saved world. To the proud philosophers of Mars Hill, Paul declared the certainty o f judgment at the hand o f the “Man” Jesus, “ whereof he [God] hath given as surance unto all men, in that he hath raised him from the dead” (Acts 17:31). to death by His enemies. They forgot that He had said He would rise from the dead. On the third day after the crucifixion, Mary Magdalene went to the tomb where Jesus’ body had been placed. She found the tomb empty and the stone which had been placed at the entrance rolled away. She told the disciples who had followed her there that the tomb was empty. They ran to tell fhe others. How sad every one was! Mary stayed near the tomb, weeping. She looked inside and saw two angels. They told her that Jesus had risen from the dead. She turned away from the tomb, and there stood Jesus ! He called her name and she knew Him. How happy all of Jesus’ friends were to know that He had come back to them! But He could stay only a short time. He must go back to heaven to prepare a place for them. This was His promise to them. It is His promise to us, too. He is with the Father in heaven now, and He will come again to take us to be with Him in heaven.
