He knows every net that is laid; He will pluck our feet out of the net. “The eternal God is thy refuge, and underneath are the everlasting arms.” What a divine Keeper! Arms of love, arms o f mercy, arms of grace—and these are all everlastingl —A. G. W h aley . “Be not drunk with wine . . . but be filled with the Spirit?’ (Eph. 5:18, R .V .). Do not seek the stimulus o f life pri marily through the «senses, but through the heart. The fundamental need o f life is not a sensation, but an inspiration. . . . What is it that reaches and quickens the innermost man? The answer given is this —the inspiration of the Holy Ghost. But how_ are we to become -filled with the Spirit? Along what lines may we receive stimulus and inspiration? The apostle sup plies an answer which, to the worldly-wise, may savor_ o f foolishness: “ Speaking one to another in psalms and hymns and spirit ual songs.” Goethe’s mother used to say that whenever her son had a grief, he turned it into a poem and so got rid of it. We may not be able to turn our griefs into our own poems, but we may turn them into other people’s poems, and so be rid of them.— J. H. J owett . APR IL 12 Spiritual Stimulus

Think o f this man who can lie in a dungeon chained to a coarse, vulgar Ro man soldier, with sore wrists and the marks of the chain, awaiting, day by day, the sentence of death, and yet who is always able to say, “ I know that this shall turn to my salvation.” .
