UAF students share design project at Pogo mine with Fairbanks Branch
A MA's Fairbanks Branch its breakfast meeting in late April. Students presented their senior design project on the Star deposit at Northern Star’s Pogo mine. UAF's mining engineering program is one of only 13 ABET accredited mining programs in the United States, and the only one of its kind in Alaska and the Pacific Northwest. Whereas the majority of larger schools focus mainly on coal, UAF's is a hard-rock focused program and uniquely positioned to prepare mining engineers for working in the Arctic. UAF gradu- ates quickly find employment or go on to pursue advanced degrees.
