Playing Your Hand
This is the hand you’ve been given. You have to play it. Is life fair? Not always, and it can be unpredictable. Everything can be going smoothly, then you get hit with a curve ball that you just didn’t see coming. How do you keep going? How do you keep your head above water and still succeed? Stand up straight. Square your shoulders. Hold your head high. Breathe, and swing from the rafters. Success in life is not about avoiding trouble. It’s about getting up again and again. It’s about resilience.
What is Resilience?
Resilience is having the capacity to stand and face your challenges, whatever they may be. It’s a decision that you make that no matter what, you’re going to finish. It’s called having a “bounce back”, and as you’re bouncing back, you’re also learning. When tough things happen, take the time to stop and look at all the factors. How did you get here? How did you participate and contribute to this outcome? What can you learn from this so that you can avoid repeating it? Don’t rush through a hard situation. Take the time to reflect on what happened; what didn’t happen; and how can you prepare for a different outcome? This will position you for more successful results in the future. This analysis will help you develop strong character, perseverance, and resilience. This is what separates the men from the boys. People who are resilient don’t see failure. They see opportunity and roll up their sleeves. They mentally command their desired result and move towards it. This situation is just the first stepping stone. There will be more, and they’re ready. They are determined. They are also picking up new skill sets along the way. Excuses are never allowed. The crutches were thrown in the dumpster last year.
