determined that renovated spaces in the Mansion, the Carriage House, and the Conservatory, as well as the addition of two new buildings are the pathway to expand Callanwolde’s programming. Build. Inspire. Grow. is reminiscent of Callanwolde’s rich history—built by one family, inspired by the community, and growing to serve all. The five-year capital campaign, with a goal of $8.5M, was launched in July 2023. One hundred percent of Callanwolde’s Board of Directors and Staff have committed financially to this project. It is no surprise that the organization’s donor base has been incredibly supportive during the silent phase of the campaign. By the end of 2023, we achieved an impressive 32% of the capital campaign goal. Great work is underway as we work towards launching the public phase of the campaign. We anticipate significant support from DeKalb County to help us cross the campaign finish line. A Capital Campaign to Increase Capacity for the premier Community Arts Center in Atlanta, Georgia.
A comprehensive feasibility study for Callanwolde Fine Arts Center’s growth plan was conducted in May 2023. The study concluded that the plan—serving the community in a much larger capacity through renovation and expansion efforts—directly responds to the growing needs of low-income seniors, veterans, adults transitioning out of homelessness, adults with disabilities, and students who qualify for Title I and Title III assistance. The number of dance performances and classes at Callanwolde has grown exponentially during the past 50 years. Heavy dance floors in the historical Mansion are placed down and taken up an average of 51 times a year to accommodate a variety of programming. Additionally, current waiting lists for Callanwolde’s pottery classes exceed 200 students. After months of due diligence in exploring effective and sustainable options to significantly increase community engagement efforts and keep up with demand, Callanwolde leadership
