2023 Callanwolde Volunteer of the Year DAVE GUTMAN
For the fourth year in a row, pottery student, Dave Gutman, was recognized as our Volunteer of the Year. Not only did Dave manage our Greenhouse and Community Garden, but he also oversaw many improvements around Callanwolde’s campus, with the help of staff. Starting with the Kiln Yard, he spearheaded resurfacing of the raku area (reclaiming about three-foot of space on the south and east edge), moved shelving obstructing the exit of the hand
building studio, added underground drainage, created new space to store kiln bricks, and poured a new pad for the raku kiln, with help from Jaime Dutro. He also oversaw many lighting projects which upgraded fixtures to LED in the basement pottery studio and greenhouse. He fixed and stabilized the Pergola and created additional space in the community garden with the help of Cynda Rosenbaum.
