GPI Celebrates 25 Awards For Product Innovations In 2022

Atlanta, Georgia based Graphic Packaging International (GPI) announced its celebration of 25 awards that it was presented over the course of 2022. Spread out over 10 competisions, prizes included the Paperboard Packaging Council (PPC) Awards, European Carton Excellence Awards, PAC Global Awards, and the WorldStar Awards. Dan Ahern, GPI’s Director of Global Innovation and De- sign was jubilant after the latest wins – eight successes at the PPC Awards, including the Paperboard Package of the Year, Innovation of the Year, and the Richard DePaul award for Creative Converting and Design. “I am so proud of the entire innovation team at Graphic Packaging. The fact that we won three of the top five PPC awards is recognition of their passion and commitment to innovation. It is also so rewarding to be recognized by our industry peers,” he said. “We aim to lead the way when it comes to innovation in the paperboard space and this year’s awards will help us build our innovation momentum as we move into 2023.” The year has been defined by the company’s expand- ed portfolio following its acquisition of AR Packaging, com- pleted in 2021. The portfolio welcomed Boardio, which earned five awards including Paperboard Package of the Year, two Ameristar awards, and a PAC Global award. Crafted from more than 90 percent renewable fiber, Boardio is a sus- tainable, recyclable alternative to plastic and metal canis- ters that offers superior versatility and flexibility across an expansive range of applications. Other products include PaperSeal, a fiber-based bar- rier tray range that replaces traditional plastic trays for fresh and processed meats, fish, prepared fruit and sal- ads, cheese and pasta. PaperSeal took in three WorldStar awards, including a Special Award in Sustainability and an Ameristar award. The PaperSeal is credited with reducing plastic use by up to 90 percent compared to traditional trays and the elimination of more than 2,280 tonnes of plastic from glob- al supply chains by the start of 2022. Innovations in the beverage category were recognized with seven awards, including two for KeelClip, a recycla- ble paperboard pack that replaces plastic rings and shrink films on beverage containers. KeelClip has been adopted by some of the world’s largest beer and soft drinks brands, with over 550 million packs sold worldwide. The ClipCombo machinery solution won a PACK EXPO Technology Excellence Award in the Sustainability catego- ry, a focus area for beverage customers. “We are excited to continue our innovation journey to bring our customers sustainable packaging that meets the needs of consumers – and the planet,” Ahern said.
