W6rd of Truth;” and more and more he is realizing the priceless spiritual value and significance of the inspiring promise : “And they that be wise shall shine as the bright ness of the firmament; and they that turn many to righteousness as the stars for ever and ever.” DR. TORREY. COMMENDS “We live in a day in which evangelists . abound and superabound. While we rejoice in the marvellous work that God is doing through some of these evangelists, our hearts are deeply grieved over the methods used by others. When we read their advertisements and learn of their methods of approach to ministers and churches in order to get an opening, it is hard to escape the conclusion that some of them are adventurers of the most dan gerous sort. Then when we read the re In Psalm 146:4 we read, “His breath goeth forth, he returneth to his earth; in that very day his thoughts perish." Does this teach that when a man dies he is as, a piece o f stone or dust, and has no intelli gence or thought?, No, it teaches nothing of the kind. Every verse in the Bible should be looked at in its connection. The immediately preceding verse reads, “Put not your trust'in princes, not in the son of man, in whom there is no help.” Then the' Psalmist goes on. to say as a reason why we should not put our trust in princes, etc., “His breath goeth forth, he returneth to his earth; in that very day his thoughts perish.” That is to say, princes and men are unworthy of our confidence, because they may die any day, and when they do, no matter how strong they are, all their purposes and plans come

ports of their work, and afterwards examine the actual results of their work we find such a wide difference between the published reports and the actual facts that we are, to put it mildly, greatly puzzled. But there are many of the evangelists in whom we believe, and we believe in their work. “I have followed the work of William P. Nicholson for several years ^with great interest. I have heard him preach; and he has held a campaign in the Moody church in Chicago, of which I was formerly pas tor. I have made, many inquiries about him and his work there, and I find that everyone has nothing but good to say about him and his work. Mr. Nicholson is sound in his doctrine, careful in his methods, thorough in his work, and leaves a good impression upon a city after he has visited it.” to nothing. It is perfectly clear that “thought” in this verse refers to purpose, the things that he thinks to do, or plans to do (See also Margin, Revised. Version). When a man dies the natural death, if he is air unsaved man, his soul goes into Hades, and his body crumbles into dust. If he is a saved man his spirit .departs to be with Christ in conscious blessedness, far better than his condition in this world (Phil. 1:23), he is unclothed from his present body, but is at home with the Lord. He does not, however, come into his final and full blessedness until the return of his Lord, when he is clothed upon with his new body from heaven (2 Cor. 5:1-8). Before the ascension of Christ the souls of both the righteous and unrighteous went into Hades (into different parts of Hades, however), and their bodies crumbled into
