A MESSAGE FROM HEAD OF YEAR 12

Year 12 have enjoyed an action packed Enrichment and Progression week in which they have gained valuable information about their post-18 options. It began with Mr Bannister delivering a workshop on Monday on how to write an effective personal statement. Students were taken step by step through the process and supplied with resources and examples to assist them. In the afternoon Medical professionals came in to talk to the students about their respective careers in Medicine, Dentistry, and Physiotherapy to mention a few. On Tuesday we were lucky to receive apprenticeship advice and presentations from a number of industries and businesses including National Physical Laboratories, IBM, Savills and Goldman Sachs. Students heard first hand advice from professionals and those on the apprenticeship programme about the various opportunities available to them. We would encourage students to research this in more detail if they are interested. On Wednesday the whole of Year 12 went to St. Mary’s University to find out more about life as a student. This included experiencing a lecture in a subject they are interested in, finding out about student finance and taking a tour around the campus. All students listened intently and asked thought provoking questions. On Thursday, potential Oxbridge students received valuable support on the admissions process and how to enhance their personal statement with supra-curricular activities linked to their field of study. It was great to see so many students interested in applying. Mr Bannister provided resources and guidance and further support will be offered throughout the process. The week culminated in a well deserved trip to Thorpe Park and I hope students enjoyed the opportunity to relax with their friends after their recent mock period. Next week sees Year 12 students back in lessons and ready to learn. I hope they approach their lessons with the same positivity and enthusiasm that got them through their mocks and the enrichment week. A big thank you to all staff involved in the planning and delivery of all the events. Parents are reminded that on Wednesday 7 May students should not come in for P1 and P2 as we will be hosting our Year 11 leavers assembly. Students are therefore expected to arrive during break time, ready for P3.
