School board reviews math strategy loped through theMinistry of Education for all Ontario schools, from kindergarten to Grade 12 levels.
The UCDSB version of the provincial stra- tegy will involve reviewing and improving support for teaching staff with math study programs, and also determining which scho- ols may be in need of “intensive support” for their mathematics programs. The district will also schedulemonthlyMath Study Days for teaching staff, support a regional “math network” so teachers can share ideas, and also support special staff and administration training sessions in math instruction. Prior to Allen’s report, UCDSB trustees heard a verbal report from Russell High School Principal Susan Rutters on the suc-
cess at her school in improving student math and literacy skills. Rutters noted that 77 per cent of her students scored well in last term’s Grade 10 provincial literacy test.The school is now reviewing the test data to determine how best to help students who did not score well on the exam. Rutters noted that the Grade 9 academic math provincial exam saw an 88 per cent suc- cess rate for Russell High School’s students. The appliedmath test, though, resulted in a 44 per cent success rate. School staff are now reviewing the results and developing their own strategy, using “real-life situations”, to help improve students’ ability with practical applications of mathematics.

AVIS D'ADOPTION D'UN RÈGLEMENT POUR MODIFIER LA COMPOSITION DU CONSEIL ET RÉDUIRE LE NOMBRE DES QUARTIERS ÉLECTORAUX AVIS AU PUBLIC que le Conseil de la Corporation du Canton d’Alfred et Plantagenet a adopté le 17 octobre 2016, le Règlement No 2016-80 pour modifier la composition du conseil et réduire le nombre des quartiers électoraux en vertu des articles 9, 10, 11, 217 et 222 de la Loi de 2001 sur les municipalités. BUT ET EFFET : Le Conseil a évalué sa composition, la façon dont les membres sont élus ainsi que la reconfiguration des quartiers électoraux. Suite à cette évaluation, le conseil municipal a adopté le règlement numéro 2016-80 afin de dissoudre les quartiers existants et diviser à nouveau la municipalité en deux quartiers, soit : le quartier 1 qui englobe les anciens quartiers 1 et 3, et le quartier 2, qui englobe les anciens quartiers 2 et 4. Le règlement établit également que les membres du conseil seront élus à raison de trois membres représentant les deux nouveaux quartiers. COMMENT FAIRE APPEL - Les avis d'appel doivent être reçus au plus tard le 2 décembre 2016. Toute personne ou organisme public peut faire un appel contre le Règlement No 2016-80 en déposant auprès du greffier de la municipalité un avis d'appel en vertu de l'article 222 de la Loi de 2001 sur les municipalités, qui explique les objections qui sont faites contre le règlement, ainsi que les raisons pour ces objections. RENSEIGNEMENTS SUPPLÉMENTAIRES : Le règlement au complet peut être consulté au bureau du greffier municipal durant les heures d'ouverture habituelles. NOTICE OF ADOPTION OF A BY-LAW TO AMEND THE COMPOSITION OF COUNCIL AND REDUCE THE NUMBER OF ELECTORAL WARDS TAKE NOTICE that the Council of the Corporation of the Township of Alfred and Plantagenet adopted By-LawNo. 2016-80, a by-law to amend the composition of Council and reduce the number of electoral wards, on October 17, 2016, under Sections 9, 10, 11, 217 and 222 of the Municipal Act, 2001. PURPOSE AND EFFECT: Council has evaluated its composition, the manner in which the members of Council are elected as well as the dissolution of the existing electoral wards. Based on this evaluation, Council has adopted By-law Number 2016-80 to dissolve the existing wards and redivide the municipality into two new wards; namely, Ward 1, comprising the former Wards 1 and 3, andWard 2, comprising the former Wards 2 and 4. The by-law also establishes that three members of Council are to be elected in each of the new wards. APPEAL - The last date for filing a notice of appeal of the by-law is December 2, 2016. Any person or organization may appeal By-law 2016-80 to the Ontario Municipal Board under Section 222 of the Municipal Act, 2001, by filing with the clerk of themunicipality a notice of appeal setting out the objection and the reasons supporting the objection. Et pourtant, c’est une fête qui suscite de l’engouement. À en voir certaines maisons déjà pleinement décorées pour l’occasion, les adultes adorent se faire des frayeurs et les enfants en redemandent. Pourquoi ? Et bien simplement parce qu’on a le droit de se déguiser, de se faire peur et de manger des bonbons, trois bonnes raisons incontestables. La collecte de bonbons aura bien lieu encore cette année. Quoi de mieux que de fêter cette tra- dition où la peur est au rendez-vous dans une ancienne prison ? En effet, cette année encore, l’ancienne prison de l’Orignal met les petits plats dans les grands en proposant une journée « prison hantée » de 15 h à 21 h, le 31 octobre. Plusieurs organismes et bénévoles joindront leurs efforts de créativité pour organiser une prison hantée plus grande et plus effrayante pour cette 2e édition. Un peu plus loin dans la région, à Rockland, une soirée au River Rock Inn attend le public, le 29 octobre. Plusieurs prix sont à gagner pour cette soirée pleine de festivités et où le thème est « Les cowboys contre les rockers ».
