The mile and a quarter of the Kentucky Derby proved beyond him and we didn’t see the real Domestic Product until he was dropped back to a mile in the G3 Dwyer Stakes, just as his sire Practical Joke had done after finishing fifth in the Kentucky Derby. Practical Joke won the Dwyer, and his son won even more impressively, romping home by 7½ lengths. The parallels between father and son continued when they dropped back further in distance in Saratoga’s G1 H. Allen Jerkens Memorial and both were successful again in this seven-furlong contest. As a son of Practical Joke and grandson of Into Mischief, Domestic Product can be expected to work his way up through the ranks as a stallion.
