Relationship of Parental Bonding Instrument to Childhood Attachment Measures

The assessment of childhood attachment was based on two separate instruments.

Hazen and Shaver's (1987) forced choice measure was used along with The Parental

Bonding Instrument Parker et al. (1979). The Parental Bonding Instrument was used to

provide a continuous measure of attachment related constructs. It also provides a

measure ofmaternal and paternal parenting for assessment. In order to establish a clear

relationship between the two measures an analysis of responses was performed. First, a

comparison showing how the parental care of mother is associated with childhood

attachment was completed (see Table 3 ).
