Governments, businesses and charities across the world are now using insights and methods from behavioural science to transform the way they work. Behavioural Science in Practice is an immersive three-day executive course run by Warwick Business School and the Behavioural Insights Team, introducing key principles from behavioural science and how to apply them to real world problems.

Its methods are, to some extent, experimental, drawing significantly on psychology, economics and neuroscience. Doctor of Business Administration (DBA) Make your mark on the world of business research and practice

“The DBA programme has given me the opportunity to develop both professionally and personally through the four-year intensive programme. One of my main highlights has been joining the diverse and highly intellectual fellow cohort from all over the world which fostered knowledge, culture, friendship and fun. I’ve also really benefited from the faculty, who were not only renowned in their respective fields, but were also very friendly and approachable; their support every step of the way was truly invaluable.” Remi Abere Doctor of Business Administration (2016 – 2020)

Benefits Our DBA is designed to produce

Who is the course for? In pursuing these goals, the DBA brings together our inspirational faculty, a unique degree programme designed to impart critical skills at the highest level, and organisational leaders and entrepreneurs with the desire and ability to make change in their organisations. Does that sound like you?

Do you have a desire to change the way your business functions, and impact the world of business with new ideas and big picture thinking? Our Doctor of Business Administration degree is designed to provide you with the opportunity to pursue the next step beyond your MBA or equivalent qualification. It is equivalent in stature to a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degree, but distinct in that you will pursue applied research rather than theoretical knowledge. The goal of the DBA is to design organisational interventions which help address real-world challenges in your business, and then to rigorously evaluate, assess and test the effectiveness of those interventions, and to communicate the findings so that both the world of practice and the world of research can benefit from your work. In this way, DBA candidates generate new knowledge – the ultimate criterion for the award of a Doctoral degree.

Nudgeathon Using behavioural science and design to solve problems together

A powerful tool to untangle complex problems and develop new ideas, Nudgeathon uses the power of ‘crowdsourcing’ to solve problems. From nudging consumer behaviour in financial projects for the Australian Treasury, to strengthening the local economy in Göteborg, Sweden, to encouraging conversations around Prostate Cancer to aid earlier diagnosis, Nudgeathon can be applied to issues in any sector, organisation, or culture. Developed in the Behavioural Science group at Warwick Business School, Nudgeathon aims to produce solutions to major problems within your organisation by drawing on insights and methods from behavioural science, as well as from psychology, economics, design and the performing arts. Providing a safe and fresh space for multiple problem-owners to come together, Nudgeathon enables them to share their own perspectives, develop a shared understanding of the problem, and finally work together to find solutions.

A Nudgeathon is fully tailored to your organisation and could further help you to obtain buy-in to solutions from strategic partners Designing your Nudgeathon Over the six to eight weeks of your Nudgeathon project, the team at WBS will: ■ Conduct sessions with your team to develop a behavioural map – identifying detailed target behaviours and agreeing on the outcomes that you are looking to achieve ■ Conduct a work-based personal learning exercise to prioritise the key target behaviours ■ Identify and recruit relevant stakeholders to be involved in the Nudgeathon ■ Work with you to develop the problem brief ■ Recruit team members through interviews and focus groups.

“We needed a space where people with different backgrounds could think together towards solving a behavioural problem, and the Nudgeathon seemed to us like the best fit for this.” Jimena Llopis Abella Behavioural Scientist, World Bank

“Bringing together stakeholders to learn about the field of behavioural economics was eye-opening for our attendees. We also found that using the MINDSPACE framework within groups in a competitive environment helped to generate feasible and exciting solutions. We were fortunate to publish our experience of the Nudgeathonin an international peer-reviewed journal and we have subsequently secured further funding to implement the solutions that emerged from the Nudgeathon event.”

“Complex problems exist because there are no easy solutions and they cannot be fixed through a single tool. Leveraging the power of diversity, expert insights, insider knowledge and open group interactions, Nudgeathon equips you to solve these problems. We work deep with organisations over a span of six to eight weeks to build capability, create new ideas and stress test them.” Umar Taj Umar Taj, Co-founder of Nudgeathon and Associate Professor of Behavioural Science
