Health Visitors As a health visitor you will make a

You will be involved in health assessments, administering medications, providing health education, managing immunisation, supporting children with chronic conditions, and collaborating with other healthcare professionals. Just the right recipe for keeping you on your toes. School Nursing can be incredibly rewarding. You have the chance to support and empower young people, make a difference in their lives, and foster a positive and healthy school environment. Understanding the positive impact you have on the well-being of both younger and older school students can bring with it a sense of fulfilment and purpose.

significant difference in people’s lives, particularly in the early stages of a child’s development. You can provide support, guidance, and information to families, promoting the health and well-being of children, parents, and communities. Health visitors play a crucial role in promoting public health. By working with families and communities, you can educate them about healthy lifestyle choices, disease prevention, immunisation, and other health-related topics. Your interventions can help reduce health inequalities and improve overall community health outcomes. As a Croydon health visitor, you will quickly start to build strong relationships with the families you work with. You will build trust and engage with your families, effectively supporting them through challenging times, such as pregnancy, infancy and early childhood. Often our health visitors work with the same families over the years as they have more children and still need our services. School Nurses As a school nurse you will be promoting and supporting the health and well-being of children and young people who attend schools in Croydon, often at times when they need the right kind of support. You will get to know the children you work with, helping them stay healthy and safe, and ensure that they have access to the care they need, when they need it.

Both Health Visitors and School Nurses

We have opportunities for both health visitors and school nurses. And there are personal benefits that are common to both roles. For example, both roles are ‘family friendly’ as the hours are more daytime focussed – no more 12-hour shifts or through the night shifts. Health visitors generally work 9-5, with school nurses often times working the hours of the school day. In both cases, opportunities for job sharing are supported. But it is much more than the work-life balance that suits you and your family, it’s about the personal rewards and the job satisfaction of continuing to do the job you love and trained for but in a different way.

I love the fact that no two days are ever the same. You come to work knowing that you will face new people, new challenges and new rewards.” Katharine, Staff nurse
