Great Lakes Label Launches Waste Management Initiative
trade for nearly four decades, with a consistent focus on adopting new technologies,” said Manager Ankit Darji. He added that his decision to invest in the Quartz platform followed several months of evaluation, including a visit to Germany to gain a closer understanding of the technolo- gy’s development. According to Darji, Quartz addresses several limita- tions associated with conventional LAMS plate imaging, offering opportunities to improve flexographic reproduc- tion and printing performance. The choice of the 42 x 60-inch format was guided by the company’s existing production setup and the require- ments of its customer base. The format offers the flexibility to handle a broad range of jobs, particularly in wide-web applications, where it fits well with the dimensions of many packaging assignments. The investment also reflects Ankit Graphics’ focus on the flexible packaging market, where flexographic printing
Great Lakes Label, a provider of labeling and automa- tion solutions, has diverted more than 180,000 pounds of waste from landfills in the first month of implementing a new waste management process. The milestone rep- resents approximately 90 tons of diverted material, with 92 percent of the waste generated by the company’s op- erations now being kept out of landfills. The achievement marks a significant step forward in Great Lakes Label’s ongoing commitment to continuous
improvement, operational efficiency, and responsible manufacturing practices. The initiative began with a challenge from Kate Sakos- ki, Quality Assurance Director at Great Lakes Label, who encouraged the team to reevaluate its waste management practices and explore alternatives to traditional landfill dis- posal. With support from company leadership and collab- oration across the organization, the team developed and implemented a solution designed to reduce waste while improving operational efficiency. To support the initiative, Great Lakes Label invested in a waste matrix removal system from Precision AirConvey and partnered with Innovative Waste Strategies to im- prove waste handling and diversion. Together, these solu- tions have enabled the company to significantly reduce the amount of material sent to landfills. Ankit Graphics Invests In Esko Quartz Ahmedabad, India-based flexo pre-press trade shop Ankit Graphics is strengthening its plate-making capabilities with an investment in Esko CDI Crystal Quartz technolo- gy in the 4260 format. The move is aimed at expanding its capabilities in wide-web flexible packaging, a segment where demand for flexographic printing continues to grow. The company, which has been in the flexo plate-making business since 1987, sees the investment as another step in its long-standing approach of adopting new technolo- gies to improve plate quality and printing performance. “Ankit Graphics has been in the flexo plate-making
is gaining ground against gravure. The company expects the combination of Quartz imaging and advanced screen- ing algorithms to help it deliver the reproduction quality, print definition and solid ink density sought by packaging converters and brand owners. Gallus Launches New Flexographic Press Gallus is launching a new flexographic press manufactured in India. The Swiss manufacturer, a subsidiary of the Ger- man company Heidelberg, took advantage of the Loupe India 2026 trade show to unveil the Flexomaster, a press designed for label and flexible packaging printers. The press was developed by Gallus, but it is entirely assembled in India to meet the needs of local printers, par- ticularly in terms of investment and production costs. Gallus has installed more than 150 presses over the course of its 30-year presence in India. According to Hei- delberg, the Indian packaging market, currently estimated at $12 billion, could reach $20 billion by 2030. The Gallus Flexomaster has a print width of 440 mm and can reach a speed of 200 meters per minute. It can accommodate up to twelve printing and finishing stations.
