“We’ve known several of them for many years. It’s the same with our customers. I’ve been around the building yard since I was knee-high and dad and granddad have worked here most of their working lives, so we are well-known within the local community. “We’re really thankful for the efforts of our workforce during the pandemic. A lot of the guys came in when they could have stayed at home. This helped us continue to trade in a controlled work environment. Once we were legally allowed to reopen, we could do so straight away. Customers came from far and wide. Our Google My Business page showed people travelling
from all over the island of Ireland, which was great for business. It was largely down to the willingness of our staff who wanted to keep working and support us during this turbulent time. “Having a good relationship with your customers and your staff pays off. Dad, David and I just want to continue to be present in the business as much as possible to provide that personal touch that you wouldn’t get from some of the larger businesses,” said Stephen.
Kenneth and Philip were able to capitalise on growing markets. Philip’s eldest son David – who studied Business Economics at Queen’s University Belfast – has joined the firm as the third generation, along with his younger brother, Stephen – also a Queen’s graduate. This has allowed Kenneth to retire and Philip to take a more relaxed role within the firm after over 35 years of management. This family approach extends throughout the workforce and customer base. “We have a really good working relationship with our staff,” said David.
