Works to the memorial tower included the restoration of the complete stone structure, installation of new floors, a new lighting scheme and the restoration of the historic clock. Garvagh War Memorial is one of the most prominent landmarks on Garvagh’s Main Street. Originally designed by a local man, Thomas Johnston, the Garvagh War Memorial is built of local stone and stands at 40 feet high. Construction was completed on March 27, 1924 to commemorate 32 men from Garvagh who died in WWI and later, the names of those who fell in WWII were later added. Like us, buildings will age but their life can be prolonged with proper care, treatment and maintenance.
