A MESSAGE FROM HEAD OF YEAR 9

It has been another busy week this week. Year 9 had an assembly on Tuesday all about the most recent London Marathon. The assembly focused especially on the many inspirational people that took part, including Lloyd Martin who set a Guinness World record for being the youngest person with Down Syndrome to complete the race. Students were then invited to consider all of the metaphorical marathons that they might have in their life and to think about how we can all make positive steps to be resilient in the face of challenges. This week students were also invited to buy products from the Year 12 Waldegrave Economics students which they had created themselves. These included homemade brownies, handmade, affordable jewellery and handmade ecological coasters. It was great to see so many Year 9 students engaging with this and supporting our sixth form students in their efforts. Congratulations to 9EJO for getting the most epraise points this week. They are followed by 9STH in second place and 9FWD in third. Year 9 have been informed that they needed to have selected their options for the Year 9 Drop Down Day by yesterday. The majority of Year 9 students have selected their options which are excellent, so planning for this can now go ahead. Students need to ensure that they have collected their Duke of Edinburgh (DofE) hoodies from school. Many students went to the hall to receive theirs however, if your child has not received theirs then they need to go and see Ms Summers to collect it. Students are reminded that their DofE hoodies are for DofE only and are not a part of the Waldegrave uniform. They should therefore not be worn in school. Looking forward we must make mention of the Bank holiday on Monday 6 May. The school will not be open to students. I hope students have a nice rest over the extended weekend. Also parents are reminded that on Wednesday 7 May students should not come in for P1 and P2 as we will be hosting our Year 11 leavers assembly and saying our final goodbyes before they go on study leave. Students are therefore expected to arrive during break time, ready for P3.
