Crest Ink - Volume 32 - Number 04 & Volume 33 - Number 01

Insurance Insights: Dental The Benefits Team of Anne Noble and Savannah Fagan will begin sharing extra information about the various ben- efits Crest offers to employees and their families. With this issue of Crest Ink, we will focus on the Dental benefit. Crest offers Dental insurance through Delta Dental of Illinois. Of the roughly 650 people that are covered by our dental insurance, less than half actually use the benefit. This number was true even before Covid hit and dentist offices closed. While the thought for car insurance is that you have it and hope to never need to use it, dental insur- ance is a little different. Preventative cleanings are covered at no cost to you (as long as you go to an in-network dentist). All you need to do is make the appointment and show up! If you are afraid of what the dentist may find at that preventative appointment, start brushing and flossing every day. Delta Dental outlines the overall health reasons to take your oral health as important and the rest of your body! “Your oral health is connected to your overall health. Early detection of serious medical conditions occurs every day in the dental office. More than 120 diseases can cause specific signs and symptoms in and around the mouth and jaw.” Health problems with oral indicators that can potentially be identified through a dental exam include: Oral Cancer - can affect any part of your mouth, including gums, cheeks, tongue and lips Diabetes - diabetics are more likely to experience periodontal destruction - dry mouth, distinctive breath odor, burning tongue, high rate of tooth decay, inflammation and infections in the mouth Heart Disease - there is a correlation between early indicators of gum disease and atherosclerosis, a condition in which plaque builds up inside the arteries and causes coronary artery disease

EAP Reminder: Counselor Koza The New Year is a time where people tend to focus on improving their physical health, but it’s also a great time to focus on mental health! Crest Foods has a FREE and CONFIDENTIAL EAP counseling service available to employees on Mondays from 12pm - 4pm. Ashley Koza works for Sinnissippi Centers and has been our “onsite” counselor for the past few years. While appointments are typically held at the KSB Clinic in Ashton, Ashley is currently holding appointments over the phone until COVID restrictions are lifted. Typically people use an EAP counseling service for help with the following areas: Feeling stressed, trying to cope with work or family life, looking for some guidance in making a big decision, experiencing symptoms of depression or anxiety, panic attacks, marital concerns, conflict resolution, support, and substance use. If you feel like counseling might benefit you, please give Ashley a call to set up an appointment: 815-732-3157
