A MESSAGE FROM HEAD OF YEAR 9
We are fast approaching the final weeks of the term, with lots of Christmas events planned for students as well as parents and guardians.
This week we had our Year 9 Parents Evening, which was very successful. We hope that you found it useful to speak with your child’s teachers and to see the progress that they are making in school. Hopefully they now have constructive targets to focus on when they come back in January for the new school year.
Well done to 9EJO for getting the most epraise points this week. They are followed by 9SPI in second place and 9EPA in third.
Today a number of students have spent the day at St. Augustine’s Church where they are busy rehearsing for the Carol Concert taking place later tonight. We hope everyone has a lovely evening at this event.
On Thursday 14 December, we have an extremely festive day for Year 9 with the Christmas lunch and the opportunity to wear a Christmas jumper over their uniform in place of the usual school jumper. Students and their families are kindly requested to make a donation either via ParentPay or our JustGiving page, with all proceeds going to Save the Children. Please note that if your child does not wish to partake in the Christmas lunch on this day, they should purchase food at break instead. On Monday 18 December we have our Winter Festival which many students are currently busily rehearsing for. There is going to be a great array of talent on display including acting, dancing and many musical numbers, so we do encourage parents and guardians to come along to watch. It should be a really enjoyable evening! You can purchase your ticket here.

BOOK OF THE MONTH
The Tattooist of Auschwitz - Heather Morris “I tattooed her number on her left hand, and she tattooed her number in my heart,” The Tattooist of Auschwitz is a true story which follows a Slovakian Jew who was imprisoned in the concentration camp Auschwitz in 1942 and fell in love with a girl whose number he tattooed. It’s a true story which follows themes of love, survival and hope as an unforgettable love story unfolds in the midst of an atrocity. I found it to be an extremely emotive, thought provoking and inspiring story which stays with you long after you turn the last page. It’s a very gripping and deeply disturbing novel which encapsulates the horrors of the holocaust and simultaneously sheds a light of comfort and hope; even in the darkest most tragic times, love and hope prevails. ~ Recommended by Marina M-B, Year 11 student
