A SIKA TROCAL FLAT ROOFING SYSTEM INSTALLED BY GBS ROOFING PROVIDES FULL WATERPROOFING ALONGSIDE A HIGH THERMAL PERFORMANCE IN THIS ENERGY EFFICIENT PROJECT… THERMALLY EFFICIENT FLAT ROOFING
G BS Roofing was appointed by Belfast, completing the work over several phases with a total duration of around 12 months. The Antrim firm installed a built-up Sika Trocal specification, which provided the client with a 20-year warranty on completion. The roof build-up comprised a Sarnavap vapour control layer followed by Ganson to install c.800m 2 of flat roofing at the new room2 hometel Sikatherm insulation, which provides high- compressive strength coupled with low weight and low thermal conductivity. The GBS Roofing team then installed a 2mm Sika Trocal Type S PVC membrane to provide full waterproofing, with all layers secured using mechanical fixings and thermally broken fasteners. This flat roofing system provided the
hotel roof with a thermal performance U-Value of 0.11W/M 2 K. Andy Craig, Contracts Manager, GBS Roofing, said, “The room2 hometel provided many of the typical health and safety challenges that we have come to expect from city centre sites. “The high-level roof’s exposed location, coupled with site logistics, required rigorous planning that also included paying close attention to changing weather patterns.” As well as the installation of a high- quality, long-lasting, thermally efficient flat roofing system, GBS Roofing was contracted to provide additional safety and access features associated with the roof design. These included lightning protection for both the roofing structures and the building, as well as a safety walkway
to provide access across the roofing membrane for solar and air conditioning maintenance. As an additional safety feature, GBS Roofing worked with Relinea, who supplied and installed glass reinforced plastic step overs and access platforms, providing exceptional grip to walkways and steps in the most challenging of weather conditions.
