PROJECT

ROOM2 HOMETEL BELFAST

HTC MECHANICAL IS PROUD TO HAVE SUPPORTED THE SHIFT TO A GREENER FUTURE WITH ITS MECHANICAL INSTALL AT ROOM2’S ENERGY EFFICIENT HOMETEL IN BELFAST… MECHANICAL SERVICES CONTRACTOR

A collaborative approach and Ltd’s installation at room2 Belfast, led by Contracts Manager Haley Hawes alongside Jarlath O’Hagan. The firm supplied plumbing, heating and ventilation services, including a hybrid variable refrigerant flow system ideal to meet the energy efficiency, zonal control inhouse expertise were integral to HTC Mechanical Services and precise temperature regulation requirements to heat and cool 175 bedrooms. Air source heat pumps were installed to supply hot water to the building, supported by natural energy sources. HTC Mechanical also installed sanitary fittings and appliances, including ultra- low flow showers providing the same functionality as a power shower while using around 40% less water due to increased pressure. Every bedroom has a fire suppression system, and a building management system was installed to facilitate central control of all mechanical systems. Haley Hawes, Project Manager, said: “For this project we adopted a collaborative approach and utilised our in-house expertise including our building services

engineer and BIM co-ordinator to facilitate collaborative M&E working. “Due to the unique design of the building, the service routes had to be specifically installed. All associated services in the building were coordinated using BIM. “Our design team spent considerable time and effort designing routes for all mechanical services including heating, plumbing, drainage, ventilation through the various routes, corridors, and floors of the building. The time invested in design, coordination and clash detection prior to commencing works on site was invaluable. “Our BIM model was fundamental to facilitating onsite collaboration with all other parties and allowed them to advance with their install seamlessly. “The Revit model was also used to prefabricate services. Prefabrication of risers and plantroom pipework was completed off site at our headquarters facilities. This process of off-site prefabrication resulted in a quicker onsite install and minimised waste and material loss.” The project’s city centre location created its own challenges, including public safety, restricted delivery and loading zones, confined storage space and limited parking.

Proper planning helped overcome such challenges, however, with previous experience on large city projects aiding HTC Mechanical’s preparation and development of a pre-works plan covering logistics and scheduling. “Our commitment to quality and innovation is at the forefront in the development of processes to set us apart from our competitors,” said Haley. “HTC Mechanical are proud to have provided the mechanical install at room2 and supported efforts for the shift to a greener future.”
