PROJECT
ROOM2 HOMETEL BELFAST
M&E CONSULTANT
A rup was charged with ensuring room2 Belfast was compliant with the F2 section of Northern Ireland’s Building Regulations relating to the conservation of fuel and power in buildings other than dwellings. Operational energy modelling was conducted in compliance with CIBSE TM54 guidance to improve the performance of the building and generate energy savings. The 100% electric building uses high efficiency air source heat pumps to generate domestic hot water, and a hybrid variable refrigerant flow air
conditioning system for heating and cooling. Mechanical ventilation heat recovery units are used to supply and extract ventilation to rooms and meeting spaces,
while 100m2/20kWp PV cells on the roof offset electricity usage. Nick Hawthorne, Senior Mechanical Engineer at Arup, said, “The design project commenced in 2020 amid the challenges of the Covid-19 pandemic. Initially, collaborative work was conducted remotely and, as restrictions gradually lifted, the team transitioned to more in-person collaboration. “The main contractor played a crucial role in propelling the project forward, ensuring
its successful completion and delivery to the client.”

KITCHEN AND BAR CATERING EQUIPMENT
S tephens Catering and equip a highly efficient kitchen and bar area in room2 Belfast. SCE installed Rational self- cleaning combination ovens, Foster refrigeration, a Scanbox transportation trolley and a Equipment (SCE) was commissioned to design Lincat Induction Range, which offers faster heat-up times and only heats the cooking vessel. Self-condensing Hobart dishwashers were used, capturing the energy from steam in a four-sided hood, negating the need for a condensing canopy and saving 3kW per hour of energy during use. In the bar area, SCE supplied Carimali Bean to Cup coffee machines with milk fridges, low-running-cost full bar
refrigeration, a Scotsman ice machine and Autonumis milk dispenser. SCE’s fabrication plant produced all the stainless steel for the kitchen. Paul Caves, Managing Director at Stephens Catering Equipment, said, “This project aligns with the client’s vision of incorporating cost-effective and energy-efficient catering equipment while ensuring versatile foodservice capabilities. “SCE has a strong working relationship with Ganson and is looking forward to many more collaborations in the future.”
