Co Down construction and civil engineering firm GRAHAM has been appointed to lead the transformation of a majorly congested road junction in East Riding, Yorkshire. The £86.9m A164 and Jock’s Lodge Improvement Scheme is set to begin in spring 2024 and complete in late 2026, with the aim of freeing up traffic travelling on the busy route. The work will involve replacing Jock’s Lodge junction on the outskirts of Beverley, which links the A164 Hull to Beverley and the A1079 Hull to York roads. A new roundabout will be created on the A1079 to connect it with Beverley and part of the A164 will be widened into a dual carriageway. Alastair Lewis, GRAHAM contracts director, said, “Our track record of successfully delivering transformational civil engineering projects stands as testament to our commitment for the highest standards of work, professionalism, and technical expertise.” GRAHAM has also been appointed by City of Lincoln Council in England to design and deliver crucial elements of the Western Growth Corridor development. www.graham.co.uk GRAHAM TO LEAD £87M A164 AND JOCK’S LODGE SCHEME IN YORKSHIRE

GROUND BROKEN FOR CHOICE HOUSING’S £18M NEWRY DEVELOPMENT
Construction has commenced on an £18m mixed tenure development in Newry, led by Choice Housing and its subsidiary Maple and May in partnership with Clonrose Developments. Planning permission was granted in March 2023 to redevelop the former Saint Clare’s Convent and Primary School on High Street, Newry. It will include 18 two-bed apartments for private rent to be managed by Maple and May, 70 social housing properties to be managed by Choice and a bespoke community hub, with completion expected by the end of 2025. Further partners include H&J Martin Construction, Gray Designs and Hall Black Douglas Architects.
Michael McDonnell, Choice Group Chief Executive, said, “Not only does this development represent a significant boost to the area economically and help to address the ever-growing need for social and private rentals in Newry, we also believe it is sensitive to an area that has historical significance and interest.” Choice Housing recently became the first NI housing association to adopt the voluntary Sustainability Reporting Standard Framework covering 48 ESG criteria including affordability, energy efficiency, safety, equality, resident voice, and

Passive house developer Fraser Millar has been named as Developer of the Year at the PropertyPal Awards, held on November 16 in Titanic Belfast. The Belfast-based family firm was recognised as a “developer that exemplified industry leadership, innovation and consistently high-quality work” at the black-tie event. Fraser Millar operates Northern Ireland’s only Passivhaus-certified residential housing development in Northern Ireland, Lancaster Park in South Belfast, with a second development planned for Beaufort Green in Carryduff. Director David Millar said the award reflected a team effort. “Over these last few years, the industry has had several challenges but as a company we have continued to focus on providing high quality sustainable homes,” he said. “We continue to position ourselves at the forefront of the property industry in Northern Ireland with the adoption of Passivhaus Institute certification as the default for all of our developments going forward. “The benefits of such a house are in the very fabric of the building - from airtightness to thermal insulation, providing year-round thermal comfort coupled with clean, filtered fresh air.” www.frasermillar.co.uk FRASER MILLAR NAMED DEVELOPER OF THE YEAR AT PROPERTYPAL AWARDS
