Co Antrim firm Brett Martin has been recognised for its outstanding efforts in sustainability at the annual Business Eye Awards in ICC Belfast on November 30. In the last 12 months, the plastics manufacturer launched its first bio-based range at the world’s number one trade fair for plastics and rubber, K Exhibition. BioPlus is a sustainable polycarbonate glazing product, which replaces over 80% of the fossil-based oil material with bio-circular materials, mostly sourced from the food industry including used cooking oils. The raw material production process significantly reduces carbon emissions, leading to an 84% decrease in overall carbon emissions. The product is extruded with 100% renewable energy in a mass balanced process, certified by ISCC Plus, a certification gained by Brett Martin last year. BAND OF BUILDERS AND JP CORRY COMPLETE SAFE PLAY GARDEN PROJECT
Industry charity Band of Builders has stepped in to supply a safe play space in the back garden of a Craigavon girl with severe learning difficulties. Builders’ merchant JP Corry supported the project as headline sponsor, alongside the charity’s national landscaping partner Talasey. Aiva Barry and her family have thanked volunteers for providing the finishing touch to a bigger project after the family secured funding to build a new ground- floor bedroom and bathroom for Aiva. epilepticus during sleep, as well as 15q11.2 microdeletion, a rare chromosome abnormality in which a tiny piece of genetic material is missing. Band of Builders is a registered charity which completes practical projects to help members of the UK construction industry and their families who are battling illness or injury. It was the 34th project by the charity and its second in Northern Ireland, with the week-long project creating a seating area, laying paving and installing outdoor lighting in the 70 sqm area. www.bandofbuilders.org

Ballyclare-based Hagan Homes has begun Phase 3 of its Enler Village development in Comber, representing a £9.5m investment for the homebuilder. Building on the success of Phase 1 and Phase 2 of the scheme, Phase 3 represents its largest project to date. A consortium project commencing in 2018, Enler Village features 900 homes across a 112-acre site. It is also set to include a business park, nursing home, sheltered accommodation, creche and retail units. Additional features include linked pedestrian facilities with Comber Town Centre, a decorative focal monument on Coarse Hill and an extended salt marsh. The consortium, which also includes Antrim Construction Company, have collectively invested £150m in the project. The Hagan Homes development is a mix of two-bedroom apartments, three-bedroom townhouses, and semi-detached and detached homes priced from £185,000-£225,000.
