DallasHR 2020 Community Report

MESSAGE FROM THE CHAPTER PRESIDENT

RELENTLESS. 2020 was absolutely relentless in its assault on daily life and the HR profession. We were inundated with a global pan- demic and lockdowns that completely up-end- ed how the workplace operates. The resulting economic woes led to many layoffs, failed busi- nesses, and soaring unemployment. The death of George Floyd and the ensuing BLM protests and riots brought Diversity, Inclusion & Equity to the forefront of company discussions. Added to this was an expected, tumultuous presidential elec- tion that had us tiptoeing through the minefield of politics. It would have been easy to get down and give up with all that was happening during 2020. All the best-laid plans coming into the year did not “really” get to happen. Yet, that was where DallasHR became RELENTLESS. All of the vol- unteers and staff within DallasHR were not going to sit back and succumb to the attacks of 2020. Our HR profession was crying for help in how to respond to the onslaught of these never-ending issues. And we responded. We quickly pivoted to providing all of our networking, educational, and round table events in virtual formats. While somewhat awkward at first, our volunteers, staff, and members quickly adapted and improved upon this format to provide amazing resources to the HR community to combat 2020’s prob- lems. HRConnect, our community forum for

an assortment of HR-related questions and concerns, became a necessity for the HR professional in the Metroplex and the State of Texas. DallasHR made HRConnect available to members of other SHRM chapters within Texas to aid them in their HR efforts as well. The most monumental task was converting our heralded annual conference, the HR South- west Conference, from an amazing in-person event to an outstanding and valuable virtual event in 2020. Chrissie Rogers, the 2020 Confer- ence Director, and her team accomplished this herculean feat with profound success. I am extremely proud of all that DallasHR was able to provide to our members in 2020. It made us more agile and relentless in meet- ing the needs of HR professionals. We all look forward to returning to in-person events, but in the meantime, rest assured that DallasHR will be ready and prepared to engage and assist you, regardless of any obstacle that might come our way.
