BPL Architecture has submitted a pre-application enquiry for the demolition of buildings at Healing’s Mill. Built for Samuel Healing in 1865, it worked as a steam-powered roller mill until 2006. It was purchased for redevelopment by the St Francis group two years later. The demolition plans aim to protect and retain the best buildings of the former flour mill, to then be converted as part of the area's regeneration. Bob Beswick, director of BPL, said: "It's great to be part of such a long-awaited and prestigious project that looks to regenerate some of the most historic areas of our beautiful town” l
GLOUCESTERSHIRE FIRM IS LITERALLY SQUASHING MORE FIBRE INTO FOOD
An innovative Gloucestershire company is attempting to solve the 21st century problem of not having enough fibre in our diets. Ground-breaking research by Chipping Campden-based Campden BRI has developed a way of producing high-fibre tortillas – by using food waste. Scientists at the firm have experimented using butternut squash peeling powder to replace wheat flour and the change increased the fibre content by 97 per cent. Campden BRI Bakery scientist LucasWestphal said: "We chose the tortilla for this project as its sales are continuing to rise significantly and are therefore likely to have a real impact on people's diets. "On average, people in the UK do not consume enough fibre, and food waste is also a major concern for both consumers and the food industry. "Consumers like familiarity, so producing a high fibre product that is similar to a well-known one holds potential as an effective route to increasing the public's fibre intake" l
