CONTRACTOR CHOSEN FOR £4MILLION ‘MISSING MILE’ CANAL PROJECT

ALL-WAYS JUNCTION 10 A STEP CLOSER AS COUNCIL AGREES £220MILLION BUDGET Gloucestershire County Council’s cabinet has agreed a significant extension to its highways budget – paving the way for the long-awaited improvements to junction 10 of the M5 motorway. The budget has been increased to £220million to give the junction all-ways access and exits to and from the M5, pending approval from the Homes England Housing Infrastructure Scheme (HIF). The HIF money is crucial, as it is linked to two major developments on the A4019 Tewkesbury Road that will require the scheme: Cyber Central and the 4,000 home development at Uckington. Once the HIF confirmation is secured, the council will recruit a dedicated project management team and conduct what they are calling a “competitive procurement process” for the construction contracts l

A contractor has been chosen to deliver the £4million project that will see the restoration of the ‘missing mile’ on the Stroudwater Navigation.

Alun Griffiths Construction Ltd has been selected to deliver the work on behalf of Gloucestershire County Council, after a successful tender.

Earlier this year, the council was awarded the £4million by Highways England for delivering the project, which will link the canal from Stonehouse to Saul Junction. The funds awarded by Highways England were welcomed by JimWhite, Chair of Cotswold Canals Trust. "Having now awarded the contract toAlun Griffiths Ltd, we are able to get started, which is really welcome,” he said l COTSWOLD ESTATE WINS APPROVAL TO TURN WAREHOUSE INTO LEISURE CENTRE A warehouse on Daylesford Organic Farm is set to be converted into a new gym and clubhouse. Currently used as a workshop warehouse and distribution hub, the building on the farm estate will become a two-storey leisure centre. Planning permissionwas granted earlier in the year, but subsequent tweaks have just been approved by Cotswold District Council planners. The scheme includes treatment rooms, staff rooms, fitness studios and 230sq m gym, private grooming rooms, a club room and bar, a 25-metre swimming pool and male and female changing facilities. In total, the new development on the land owned by Lord and Lady Bamford will provide 1,062sqm of space for leisure use l
