THE APPRENTICESHIP GUIDE
A one stop shop for finding and employing the right apprentice
Clare Vertigen has been at the forefront of apprenticeships in Gloucestershire for the past decade. A director of the SouthWest Apprenticeship Company, she and her company have extensive experience of matching the best companies with the best candidates. The South West Apprenticeship Company does exactly what it says on the tin. They work with the most up-to-date and relevant information and ensure that their work – and the candidates that they help place, are at an exceptionally high standard. Their aim is to ensure that both the learner and the company get the best possible outcome by providing the best support and guidance for both parties. Ms Vertigen said: “We are the impartial mediator between all the parties in the apprenticeship experience. “We help the learner, the host and the training provider and ensure that any issues that may arise during an apprenticeship process are resolved quickly. “The apprentice and the host business will have regular reviews, where they can raise any concerns
in regards to their working activities or the training content of the apprenticeship programme. “In cases where the needs of the apprentice and the host are not being met, we aim to resolve them. “We can help the provider improve the quality of the apprenticeship experience to ensure all specific training needs are met. We want to take the hassle out of recruiting an apprentice.” The South West Apprenticeship Company offers a number of different levels of manged support to help achieve this. The most popular is a fully-hosted model where an apprentice is employed by the SWAC and placed within a business, which acts as their host. This service appeals to employers because it simplifies the whole process and removes the risk as the whole process is managed. “We will find the most appropriate apprenticeship qualification for the skills required for the job,” Ms Vertigen said. “Will help to create a job description and advertise the role across a variety of websites and social media platforms.
