A MESSAGE FROM HEAD OF YEAR 13

Last Friday, A Level student Emily M organised a charity fundraiser live music concert. The event was well attended and all proceeds from that evening’s performance were donated to the charity Music For All. It was a thoroughly enjoyable evening and wonderfully organised. Just over £2300 have now been donated to Music for all. Well done Emily! On Monday, we were delighted to welcome back one of our former students, Dr. Matilda Scott, a counselling psychologist working within the NHS. Dr Scott is currently supporting people who struggle with eating disorders and has worked across a variety of mental health services. In her talk, she shared her journey from Waldegrave to becoming a psychologist, discussing what the role entails and providing great inspiration to her successors at Waldegrave. On Tuesday our Photography A Level students spent the day in Central London, visiting the Taylor Wessing Photo Prize Exhibition at the National Portrait Gallery. After the gallery visit, students enjoyed walking along the Thames for their urban photoshoots. This hands-on experience allowed our students to further develop their practice and enhance their photographic skills while leaving them inspired and excited to explore their creativity. Today a number of students have spent the day at St. Augustine’s Church where they are busy rehearsing for the Carol Concert taking place later tonight. We hope everyone has a lovely evening at this event. Next week will be a festive one for our students, with the Christmas lunch taking place on Wednesday 13 December for KS5. Please note that if your child does not wish to partake in the Christmas lunch on this day, they should purchase food at break instead. Then, on Thursday 14 December, students have the opportunity to wear a Christmas jumper over their uniform in place of the usual school jumper. Students and their families are kindly requested to make a donation either via ParentPay or our JustGiving page, with all proceeds going to Save the Children. Also on Thursday, Year 13 Art students will start their NEA, which will last 4 days. The relevant details with regards to this have already been communicated to the students by Ms Jamieson, the Head of Art. Good luck to them all! On Friday, I’m going to lead our end of term celebration assembly, where I will give out awards both from the students’ form tutors, as well as their teachers. These awards are recognising the students’ achievements and contributions to the school. Also on Friday, our Music students will take part in the school’s Carol Singing at Fenwicks in Kingston. On a final note, students need to continue to work on and submit their UCAS applications as soon as possible.

BOOK OF THE MONTH

The Perks of Being a Wallflower by Stephen Chbosky

The Perks of Being a Wallflower is a book written in the perspective of a 15 year old boy named Charlie, who is entering a new nerving year of highschool. It follows the life of him and his friends and the challenges that they face, finding their true selves in the process.

What I found most powerful was hearing about the experiences of the different characters as they were growing up.
