A MESSAGE FROM HEAD OF YEAR 10
This week we held House celebration assemblies for each of the four houses in mixed year groups. Here we launched the recycled clothes initiative to raise money for charity. There will be drop off points for items in both hubs. Please find more information regarding this charity fundraiser further down in the bulletin. We also reflected and viewed the bake off winners in all the year groups that have been running this term. On Wednesday the school offered nasal flu vaccinations to help keep students healthy and all of their family members safe over the holidays. Today a number of students have spent the day at St. Augustine’s Church where they are busy rehearsing for the Carol Concert taking place later tonight. We hope everyone has a lovely evening at this event. We have had a number of Year 10 students passing their Music exams recently. Well done to Grace W in 10SDR for passing her Grade 4 Piano exam; Safaa B in 10FHE for achieving a Merit in her Grade 4 Flute exam; and Amelia R in 10EAH who has also passed her Grade 4 Flute exam! Our epraise winners this week are Rani T in 10EAH, followed closely by Riannon P in 10FHE and Holly C in 10PCL. Next week will be a festive one for our students, with the Christmas lunch taking place on Wednesday 13 December for KS4. Please note that if your child does not wish to partake in the Christmas lunch on this day, they should purchase food at break instead. Then, on Thursday 14 December, students have the opportunity to wear a Christmas jumper over their uniform in place of the usual school jumper. Students and their families are kindly requested to make a donation either via ParentPay or our JustGiving page, with all proceeds going to Save the Children. As December draws in we have the staff panto coming up and celebration assemblies to look forward to. There are also lots of prizes and awards to be won via epraise so keep working on those epraise points!

BOOK OF THE MONTH
The Tattooist of Auschwitz - Heather Morris “I tattooed her number on her left hand, and she tattooed her number in my heart,” The Tattooist of Auschwitz is a true story which follows a Slovakian Jew who was imprisoned in the concentration camp Auschwitz in 1942 and fell in love with a girl whose number he tattooed. It’s a true story which follows themes of love, survival and hope as an unforgettable love story unfolds in the midst of an atrocity. I found it to be an extremely emotive, thought provoking and inspiring story which stays with you long after you turn the last page. It’s a very gripping and deeply disturbing novel which encapsulates the horrors of the holocaust and simultaneously sheds a light of comfort and hope; even in the darkest most tragic times, love and hope prevails. ~ Recommended by Marina M-B, Year 11 student
