Growing Together With You
THE LIFELONG POWER OF PUSHING YOURSELF TO GROW
September is Self-Improvement Month, a time to set new goals and eliminate negative things holding you back in life. It always makes me stop and ask one uncomfortable but important question: Where have I gotten too comfortable as an attorney and a business owner? It’s easy to admire growth in others — clients who rebuild after bankruptcy, families who come to grips with tough estate-planning questions, or crash victims who fight their way back, one doctor’s visit at a time.
doesn’t just decide to take off one day. Oh no! Its mother pushes it out of the nest. That first drop isn’t pretty. It’s frantic. It’s clumsy. It’s sheer panic! But that moment of fear forces the eaglet to stretch its wings and do something it has never done before — fly. That metaphor has always hit me right between the eyes — because in this profession, I’ve seen what happens when attorneys get comfortable in the nest. They stop learning. They stop pushing. They stop growing. They get comfortable where they are, and that’s not good. Business is now moving faster than the speed of light, and I’ve seen what happens to clients when their attorneys get comfortable. I was recently in court, waiting for my client’s case to be called, and the judge was admonishing other attorneys there. It wasn’t pretty. These were all seasoned attorneys who should have known better. But the judge wasn’t having anything to do with their “old school” antics. It was pretty funny, actually, and I said as much to the judge after the hearing on my client’s case was concluded. I’ve promised myself — and my clients — that I will never be that kind of attorney. I have also promised my staff that we will never rest on what once worked in the past. We will always be innovating. I want to soar with the eagles, not perch with the pigeons. That’s why I keep pushing myself out of my own comfort zone.
Whether it’s studying new developments in bankruptcy law, sharpening our trial strategies in personal injury cases, or exploring better ways to protect family legacies through estate planning, I’m always stretching my wings. I don’t want to get comfortable. I believe my growth should translate directly into your peace of mind, your success, and the justice you deserve. At Dellutri Law Group, we see self- improvement as a daily discipline — not a once-a-year idea. That’s how we’ve built our reputation — not on fancy slogans, but by showing up better today than we did yesterday.
But what about our own growth?
Let me tell you something I learned as a child: When an eaglet is ready to fly, it
So, I’ll ask you what I ask myself:

What part of your life — legal, financial, or personal — needs a little push?

SOMETIMES, LISTENING IS THE BEST LEGAL STRATEGY HEAR TO WIN
I was on the phone with a gentleman about a year ago who had a legal question that, honestly, I couldn’t help him with. I intended to refer him to another attorney, but he had clearly prepared what he wanted to say. He had notes. He had a story.
Plenty of research underscores the importance of listening closely to our spouses, kids, other family members, and friends. But listening is crucial in business settings, too, to understand what clients really want and figure out how to help. Sometimes, people don’t know what they need or whether they even have a case. Asking questions and listening gives us a chance to catch what matters — not just the words, but the things people don’t know enough to ask questions about! If you ever have someone in your life who’s going through a tough time — especially after a vehicle collision — send them our way. We’ll listen. We’ll ask the right questions. We’ll figure out what matters. And as the story of this gentleman’s wife shows, the outcome could turn out to be life-changing.
So, I listened.
He went on for quite a while. Some lawyers would have cut it short. But about 15 minutes into his monologue, almost in passing, he mentioned that his wife had been injured in a car crash six months earlier, but the other guy didn’t have insurance. That one sentence changed everything. She hadn’t called a lawyer. She didn’t think she had a case. She was still hurting, and she was still missing work. We took her case, and it turned into a large six-figure personal injury victory. But that never would have happened if I hadn’t just shut up and listened for a few extra minutes.

The bad news came straight out of left field. And for Jasmine (not her real name), it was terrifying. Three days before her home was scheduled to be auctioned off in a foreclosure sale, Jasmine received a surprising phone call — from someone offering to buy it before the sale. Jasmine had known she was at risk. She had fallen behind on credit card bills while caring for her ailing mother, and monthly payments on her adjustable-rate mortgage had soared in response to rising interest rates. But her husband had assured her all was well. He had hired a lawyer when the lender started foreclosure proceedings. Unfortunately, her husband moved out shortly thereafter and stopped paying the lawyer — without telling Jasmine. With no contact from her husband or the lawyer, the case had proceeded to setting a sale date. When Jasmine’s neighbor Gail (not her real name, either) heard about her financial crisis, she took her aside. We had handled Gail’s Chapter 7 bankruptcy proceedings two years earlier, and she immediately urged Jasmine to reach out to us. GRILLED TERIYAKI FLANK STEAK
Inspired by TheShortOrderCook.com
INGREDIENTS • 1 1/2 lbs flank steak Marinade • 2/3 cup red wine • 1/2 cup soy sauce or tamari • 1/3 cup brown sugar • 1/4 cup sesame oil • 1 tbsp sesame seeds • 1 tsp minced garlic • 1/4 tsp black pepper • 1/4 tsp ginger powder • 1/4 tsp red pepper flakes (optional)
DIRECTIONS 1. In a large bowl, whisk together marinade ingredients. 2. Place the flank steak in a large, rimmed dish. Pour the marinade over the meat. 3. Refrigerate and allow to marinate for 15 minutes. Flip and let marinate for another 15 minutes. 4. Preheat grill to 400 F. 5. Add the meat to the grill and cook for 3–5 minutes on each side. Leave the grill lid open to avoid overcooking. 6. For a medium-rare steak, remove from grill at 130 F internally, and for medium, remove at 140 F. 7. Let the meat rest on a cutting board for 5–10 minutes. Then, slice against the grain into thin pieces and enjoy!

“They’ll listen,” Gail told her friend. “Call them.”
Fortunately, Jasmine took her advice. The next morning, we filed Chapter 13 proceedings on Jasmine’s behalf. Chapter 13 bankruptcy is designed to halt debt-collection efforts against people with a regular monthly income, and our filing automatically stopped the foreclosure sale of her home. Under Jasmine’s Chapter 13 plan, we rolled her past- due payments into 60 manageable installments. We also convinced Jasmine’s auto lender to rewrite her loan at 4%. Last month, the judge entered the confirmation order. Jasmine kept her house, slashed her car payment by $110 a month, and mailed us a “Welcome Home” wreath she made herself. She now refers all family members, friends, and acquaintances in need of help to us — so often, in fact, that we joke that she’s the firm’s honorary receptionist. We love Jasmine. As specialists in bankruptcy law, we will not watch somebody being taken advantage of by a bank or credit collector. We work hard to make bad situations better. If you are facing unmanageable debt or a threat of foreclosure on your home, contact us for a consultation. We can help you find ways to protect your assets and work out a plan to regain your financial freedom.

MAKE SUNDAY YOUR SECRET WEAPON
3. Feed the Week Choose three simple dinners. Order groceries or set a pickup. Prep grab-and-go healthy breakfasts or lunches for two days. Future you will say thanks. 4. Money Minute Check balances and due dates. Pay what needs paying. Schedule one small move toward a goal, like an extra $25 to savings or a debt. 5. Protect Your Peace Pick a firm bedtime for Sunday. Block one Focus Hour on Monday. Choose one small treat for Monday afternoon, like a walk or a favorite snack. Turn off noncritical notifications. Build this Sunday routine, review while you have your morning coffee, and enter Monday ready for whatever life throws at you.
Most people treat Sunday like a countdown clock. You do chores, think about inboxes, and feel your shoulders tense. Flip it. Use a short “Sunday 5” to set the tone for the week. Give it 30 minutes, and you can walk into Monday with a plan, not a pulse spike. 1. Map Monday in 10 Open your calendar. Pick your top three wins for the week. Ask yourself: What three things can I get done this week that will save me time every week? Put each one in a real time slot, ideally before noon on Mon–Wed. Add one 30-minute buffer to Monday for the unknowns. 2. Pack Your Start Lay out clothes. Load your work bag. Charge devices. Put keys, wallet, and cash in its designated spot. Set the coffee maker or tea kettle. Put the “first five” steps for Monday on a sticky note so nothing gets missed.
