Slightly less than half (43.2%) of all respondents reported any difficulty affording rent and mortgage payments. Approximately two-thirds (65.8%) of all respondents had difficulty with various bills and other costs of daily living. These results, coupled with the data from the question about home maintenance and housekeeping continue to point toward options such as downsizing, home sharing, and other similar approaches that allow people independence and aging in a place of their choice. Just as with home maintenance and housekeeping, there is a need to delve deeper into the reasons why people may have trouble keeping up with various bills and other costs of daily living while most did not have difficulty with rent or mortgage costs.

Pet Ownership
Approximately half (51.6%) of all survey respondents had at least one pet, however this percentage decreased with age. Whereas 73.9% of respondents in their 50s were pet owners, this was the case for only 24.8% of respondents in their 90s.
