Join a naturalist on an early morning hike to learn about the animals and plants that call Knoch Knolls Park home. The route is mostly over grassy or gravel paths. This hike is for up to four family members; please register only one member of your family. No pets please. Bring a water bottle and wear sturdy walking shoes. Meets on the nature center deck. Parent must remain with their child(ren) during the class. Bring folding lawn chairs. All fishing poles, bait and tackle are provided. We’ll be fishing rain or shine (but not if it’s thundering - check our Rainout Line), so please dress for the weather. Fishing takes place at May Watts Park’s pond and meets at entrance on Oakton Lane. Price is per child; at least one adult must attend with each family. This is a great program for kids, families, and anyone who loves nature. Instruction will be provided for participants on how trees grow and how to plant and care for the tree they will receive. Register only one member of your family; at least one adult must attend per family with children. One tree will be given to each household. Kits include all of the special supplies you need to create these fun take- home projects! Extra craft materials are available for an extra fee. An email confirmation will be sent when your kit is ready to pick up. Pick up your kit inside the nature center. FIREFLY FLIGHT KIT: July is firefly month and adult fireflies typically light up the skies in June & July in NE Illinois. Use our Fireflies Nature Discovery Kit to learn about local fireflies and their bright flights. Take home kit includes: Information sheet, firefly book list, coloring/activity sheets, supplies for four (4) firefly crafts, and materials and/or instructions for a flashlight/firefly game. Four additional firefly crafts available for an extra fee. Items not included: crayons or markers, scissors, flashlights and jars with lids. Pick up location: Knoch Knolls Nature Center. The walk is not about the destination, but instead the awakening of your senses to the natural environment around you. Reconnect with nature during these mindful walks with a certified Forest Therapy guide. The walk is held entirely outdoors. Be prepared to walk over uneven terrain. Wear comfortable clothing and walking shoes. Meets on the nature center deck.
