Headquarters Move

The RAD is moving from its current freehold premises at 36 Battersea Square.These premises include dance studios, office space, a shop, and a library and archive. The move is being undertaken because the RAD has outgrown its current space, whilst the facilities have become increasingly unfit for purpose, and redevelopment is uneconomic. A deal has been struck with Avanton, a developer, to sell the current premises and move to new purpose built headquarters just under a mile away at York Road. Avanton is redeveloping the site of an old Homebase into apartment blocks for general sale, and the RAD will occupy the ground floor and part of the first floor of this new development. The new premises will comprise all of the facilities in the current building, but with the addition of café spaces and a performance space. It will also be around fifty percent larger than the current headquarters, at c55,000 square feet. As part of the agreement with Avanton, they will be responsible for completing the core fitout of the premises to an agreed specification, with RAD responsible for ‘loose’ fixtures and fittings such as desks.

Current estimates are that the building and fitout will be complete for occupation in the last quarter of 2020.
