people from their sins.”) You have developed an unfortunate attitude. We believe that it is wrong to feel this way. Untold numbers of individ uals who otherwise would have gone to a Christless eternity have been saved in tent meetings. We seem to be living in a day when if somebody differs with us, we think they are “off beat.” We are being held up as spectacles for all the world. We have to be different from the world. It is wonderful to say that you believe in God, but make sure that it is in the biblically appointed manner. You can’t really come to God unless you have trusted in Christ. This is the heart of salvation. Realize that all have sinned and come short of the glory of God. Christ has clearly told us, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No man cometh unto the Father but by me” (John 14:6). When I was a child as tall as a chair, How often together in summer and winter. M y parents to God would offer a prayer. I often have wondered when I was a youngster What could be the reason for looking above; But now that I'm older, I see it quite plainly, The hearts of my parents were full of God's love. That old-fashioned father, that old- fashioned mother, That old-fashioned altar I'll never forget. And then when our dinner or supper was over, The Bible was brought from its place on the shelf. I hoped they'd forget it, but never, no never. And soon I was taught to get it my self. The boys would stretch their necks like a turtle THE OLD-FASHIONED ALTAR My thoughts oft return to the days that are gone.
The way to heaven is to turn right at Calvary and then keep on going straight. •k h h The debts we owe to God are also pay able to our fellow man. * * * People with a lot of brass are seldom polished. * * * Do you suppose when people fail to show gratefulness for our goodness to them, it is God's way of showing us how He feels when we fail to thank Him? * * * Have you ever thought of this that about the only difference between "silent” and "listen" is the arrangement of the letters? * * * An unyielding Christian has a saved soul, but a lost life. * * * Keep your eyes looking up, and your knees bending down. To see if the chapter Dad read would be long. We thought it was foolish; we were not attentive, But now I perceive that my own thoughts were wrong. That old-fashioned father, that old- fashioned mother, That old-fashioned altar I'll never forget. But now in these days of the hustle and bustle, The world rushes on at a sickening pace. We hardly have time for a talk with the Master Whom soon we must meet as our Lord face to face. So give us some more of those homes of devotion Where parents and children may love as they ought. And when I'm old, gray-headed and feeble, I'll still think of parents and the good that they wrought. That old-fashioned father, that old- fashioned mother.
