The six-story Big Mill is a class A mixed-use apartment building redeveloped in 2015 by Shuman Development Group that received a Pennsylvania Historic Preservation Award. Big Mill 1079, LP purchased the property. SPM Real Es- tate Group represented the buyer, while NAI Keystone represented seller Shuman Development Group . More than $15 million was allocated through the historic preservation tax credit program for renovation and preservation. The improvements transformed the historic structure into a modern residential and mixed- use asset while preserving its architectural character. The property combines resi- dential apartments with office, medical and retail components. Retail spaces feature original hardwood flooring and open, clear-span layouts, while a central pavilion provides space for outdoor seating and events. The sale marks another chapter in the evolution of the landmark property and demonstrates how adaptive reuse can preserve Reading’s architectural heritage while supporting modern residential and commercial uses.
