presses us is the load we sometimes have to bear which has no relation to any conscious wrong-do ing o f our own. It is then that the flesh would read the riot act to unrighteous accusers. The distractions of such an experience usually drive consecrated Chris tians back upon the God of all comfort. As surely as He has a chance to

speak to us, we are reminded that no human being has ever felt this oppressive burden as did our Lord Himself. He was reviled and reviled not again. He suffered unjustly and threatened not. He went to the garden of prayer and committed Himself to Him that judgeth righteously (1 Pet. 2:21, 23). Even on the cruel tree He breathed a parting prayer : “ Father, forgive them; they know not what they do.” He suffered thus, leaving us an example that we should follow His steps. This is thankworthy, if a man, in the consciousness o f God, endure grief, suffering wrongfully (1 Pet. 2:19). W e certainly cannot complain o f any persecu tion which is the result o f failures o f our own. We enter no claim for perfection—not even for our Dean. If he has written sentences capable of being construed in more than one way, he is not the first Dean of a Bible Institute who has done

misunderstood by other-servants o f the Lord, pub licly consigned to the society o f enemies of the truth with whom he has no fellowship whatever and even viciously maligned ? The flesh rises up in revolt. It would, in self defense, expose to the gaze of all the corruption in high places.- But what would be gained? An opponent or two might be slain. The flesh might be gratified. Ten thousand souls hanging in the balance might be deafened to the voice of the Spirit. Precious moments that should have been employed in teaching God’s Word would be lost. “ Thè works o f the flesh are manifest—hatred, variance, emulations, wrath, strife” (Gal. 5:19- 20 ). One of the good friends of our Institute, fully aware of the injustice o f much that has appeared in print, recently gave the following advice :

so. Even the Scripture writers seem to have done so. But that he or any other member o f our faculty has been consciously disloyal to Christ or His Word, no man zvho has been in close touch with them, and with their Lord, would, in my opinion, affirm. Our directors, our faculty, our workers, our student body, have been made conscious in a most un usual way of God’s presence as see ing, judging and helping His ser vants. In the consciousness that we were right with Him, we have tried to keep our hearts stayed upon Him, our minds stored with His promises and all our powers engaged in con structive work for Him. The Word of God has been ringing out in all our class rooms'; •our evangelistic workers have .been redoubling their efforts to add members to the Body

“ Make no attempt to explain to the public. Remember the rule o f the politician. Your friends don’ t need your expla nations. Your enemies won’ t believe them.” That is wisdom which must have come from the Word of Truth. “ Dearly beloved, avenge not your selves, but rather give place unto wrath, for it is written: Vengeance is mine, I will repay, saith the Lord.” Take the most extreme case of misunderstanding—Christ Himself. Who was, ever so misinterpreted by His own familiar friends and loved ones? W e differ from Him in that we often must suffer because o f our own failings, whereas He was with out fault. W e have to pay certain penalties for our own carelessness, but that which overwhelmingly de-

Forever, O Lord, Thy Word is Settled In Heaven. CJ HESE words o f Scrip- ture adorn the front o f our Institute Building. No member o f our faculty has ever been so foolish as to seek to unsettle God’s Word on earth. W e always have, and still do hold, to the ver bal and plenary inspiration o f the original Scriptures.
