INTERVIEW PHILIPP ROESCHSCHLANDERER
From equipment to ecosystems
What is meant by a tness ecosystem? For a long time, the tness industry has thought in silos: strength equipment, cardio, software, apps – all separate products that vaguely connect but don’t fully integrate. This model no longer works in a world of heightened consumer demands and expectations. Meanwhile, operators face growing operational complexity, disconnected member journeys and diminishing returns on tech investments. These challenges can’t be solved just by adding more features. Instead, we must address the system as a whole. With this in mind, EGYM brings training, data, intelligence and integration together into one coordinated tness and wellbeing operating system – our implementation of a layered, integrated ecosystem approach. The EGYM Ecosystem sits above individual solutions: individually, products enable experiences; collectively, they deliver long-term success at scale. It is only by shifting from a product-centric model to this ecosystem approach that we enable existing technologies to work at scale. Crucially, ecosystems must remain open and integrative rather than creating new silos. The goal is not to replace fragmentation with new forms of lock-in, but to enable intelligent integration through coordinated orchestration. What’s driving this shift? The rst driver is consumer expectation. Building a tness business is no longer about competing with other gyms. It’s now far broader than that, with competition coming from premium digital experiences across the entire digital landscape. In addition, what consumers expect from tness is
The era of standalone kit and bolt- on tech is over, says EGYM founder and CEO Philipp Roesch-Schlanderer. As consumer expectations rise and operational complexity deepens, the future of fitness lies in fully integrated ecosystems that connect equipment, data and intelligence to deliver measurable outcomes at scale.
