INFRASTRUCTURE SHAPING THE INDUSTRY
Digital Infrastructure: LMS Market Overview
Digital infrastructure has become a core component of gym operations, with leisure management systems (LMS) now underpinning membership management, bookings, payments and customer engagement across the sector. Adoption levels are high across both public and private provision, with the majority of sites now operating on a dedicated system. Despite this widespread adoption, the structure of the LMS market differs meaningfully between sectors. In the public sector, the provider landscape is relatively concentrated, with a small number of systems supporting a large proportion of sites. This reflects the scale and procurement processes associated with public leisure, where long-term contracts, system stability and integration are key considerations. By contrast, the private sector shows a more fragmented provider landscape, with a broader range of systems used across operators of different sizes. This reflects greater flexibility in system selection, as well as more varied operational requirements across independents and larger chains. As digital capability becomes increasingly linked to member experience and operational efficiency, LMS platforms are shifting from operational tools to strategic infrastructure across both sectors.
